Strong Convictions

Attendance at SBC is a privilege and not a right. This privilege may be forfeited if the standards and rules are not observed.  If a student is considered to be out of harmony with the standards of life and work that SBC believes to be essential, he may be suspended, expelled, denied a degree, or denied further enrollment.

Standards of Conduct and Dress
Shawnee Baptist College believes the Bible literally. It is the standard of faith and practice. SBC expects a student to obey the Word, to display godly character, and to exercise self-discipline. He is to abstain from immodesty, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, illegal drugs, dancing, gambling, profanity, rock music, and theater attendance. Moral virtue is essential; therefore, pornography, fornication, adultery, and homosexuality are not tolerated. SBC reserves the right to dismiss or refuse to enroll anyone whose personal conduct or attitude is not consistent with the Christian spirit and standards SBC seeks to maintain.

In a day of shifting standards, it is imperative that SBC carefully define its standards and rules of conduct.

Shawnee Baptist College has been raised up by God to train Christian leaders. It is to be expected, therefore, that the principles and standards of conduct be of the highest order. It is fundamental that all staff and students of the college adopt a Biblical lifestyle.

Prospective students should assess their willingness to abide by these standards during their student days. Students who are not comfortable in such a community setting cannot enjoy the maximum benefits of their education at SBC. When understood and applied as intended, college standards fashion character, build spiritual maturity, and foster professional growth.

At SBC, we want our young men and women to look like men and women. Clothing should appear neat at all times. Extremes in fashion MUST BE AVOIDED: no hairstyle or clothing style will be allowed which is judged by the administration to be worldly, sloppy in appearance, flashy, or non-conformist; clothing or other items that promote or identify the student with questionable products or people will not be allowed; unisex items including extreme boy-cut hair styles on ladies will not be permitted; and styles considered by the administration to be in bad taste will be banned.

Participation
Every student is expected to participate in the learning process through homework, special papers and/or research projects, and class discussion. These avenues of learning, combined with the internship program, provide well-rounded training that is both theoretical and practical and that develops an individual with the intellectual competence and technical proficiency needed to effectively minister in today’s world.

In addition to their internship responsibilities, all students must participate weekly in the soul-winning visitation program of the church.
